Dieting Myths
Myth No.1 Cutting down tremendously on caloriesmeans that the pounds will drop off quicker.
Believe me, this is not how it works. If you take in too few calories you will actually
send your body into a tailspin that can contribute to weight gain as opposed to weight loss.
You will end up in a mode of starvation.
When you send your brain the message that you do not have enough to eat and are starving, this will cause your metabolism to slow down a great deal. This does not facilitate weight loss at all.
It actually causes the brain to trigger your body to store fat!!
According to those who study weight loss, the diets that are as low as 800 to 1,000 calories per day are dangerous. What’s more, they are unhealthy and will actually lead to weight gain. If your body thinks it is suffering from a famine, then it immediately kicks into gear to protect you and will not make it easy to get rid of excess weight.
Plus, if you’re starving yourself then you will probably experience plenty of undesirable
side effects. You could experience lightheadedness, nausea and even problems concentrating.
Now, conversely, if you’re starving yourself you will eventually have to eat. And you will have to give your body what it needs and it is likely that you will end up stuffing yourself to make up for starving it before. Please, don’t do this to yourself!
2. Being strict and depriving myself of foods is good.
Are you a monk? If you choose a strict diet that severely limits the foods you eat,
such as eliminating one or more food groups or mainly eating only one or two foods,
not only will you get bored but you will lose motivation to stick with your diet.
Your body likes variety and so do your taste buds. By eating a variety of foods
(in moderation) you make sure that you get plenty of vitamins and minerals. Nutritionists agree
that nutrients that you get through diet versus supplements are far superior. So, get some variety.
Don’t limit yourself to the point of being ridiculous. This is not and never has been an
effective way of losing weight and don’t think that it will work. Allow yourself to have dessert occasionally if it is what you desire. Just make sure you have a small piece of pie or cake or one scoop of ice cream, not two. Deprivation will get you nowhere.
Do some research. The Calorie shifting diet as well as the GI diet provide your body just what it
needs to do its job. Let’s stop working against it.
